I’ve eventually managed to upload a selection of images from our Californian road trip in October of this year. A handful of those images may be portfolio worthy but I find there is value in choosing a broader selection initially. This may lead to seeing something in one image that a reprocess may bring out later or confirm or reject an image that I initially like. Images take time to soak in and to arrive at a point where I’m comfortable with them and content to add them to a portfolio on the website.
The California tram shot surprisingly (to me) is one of my favourites but where I am going to put it on a website that’s themed around nature photography? Yosemite National Park was all I dreamed it would be and more but a high pressure weather system stayed over the Sierras for our entire visit. As such none of the images have the atmosphere that cloud, rain and fog bring. On the flip side of that coin – all of the peaks were visible. Which weather conditions would I prefer – give me atmosphere any day!
Sequoia National Park was similarly clear and cloudless as was Big Sur. When fog did materialise it was so thick in Morro Bay that we couldn’t see the famous rock there. We did make an effort to get out for sunrise and stay out for sunset on most days but without cloud the golden hour light was brief. This is evident in the images from Tunnel View in Yosemite. Infra red images faired well in this weather and some of these images are my favourites.
Here’s the selection of images from one of the best trips we’ve ever done – a trip of a lifetime.
